Itinerary for a weekend break in Budapest:
Our team make great efforts daily to give you the best about travel. This itinerary will give you a way to visit Budapest in a weekend in the summer.
Day 1:
You arrive, for example, Friday afternoon and why not leave your bags at the hotel (we recommend in the center in Ersébet Square or near the river) and go drink some fresh juice or a cappuccino in Starbucks Fashion Street, opposite the Ersébet Square, to go get used to with the international atmosphere of this beautiful city. For dinner time there is a wide range of restaurants, from different cultures, close to the St. Stephen's Basilic or the Andrássy street, where with its refreshing jets you can take good advantage of the numerous terraces.
Day 2:
Since it is a weekend, we recommend you to start with the Buda side, where is the castle. You can enjoy the tourist bus Giraffe Hop on Hop off that normally departs of Ersébet Square and as you head to the other side of the river you take the opportunity to see some places in town that later you can visit. The price of this bus is 22 € for adults and 20 € for students. This is a 2 day ticket and you can get in and get out as often as you want, in any one of several stops that exist along the route. We recommend that you take the Red Line, which passes through the Opera and other monumental locations, and go to the Castle District and then visit the castle and the entire area surrounding it. The view of Buda on Pest, the river, the various bridges, the Parliament, is absolutely magnificent and unforgettable.
Lunchtime is approaching and we suggest you to get off the castle by foot, and walk to the White Bridge, continuing to enjoy a unique view and cross the white bridge to the Pest side. Then turn right and go following the Danube river to find the Trattoria Toscana, a restaurant that we recommend and where quality is guaranteed!
After lunch why not take the Yellow Line at the nearest stop (which you can see on the map that you will receive on the bus) and during this route you will see both sides of the city and you will pass for example the famous Gellért Baths and the Margaret Island. A few more stops and we suggest to get off at the market stop , which is worth taking a look if it is open, and go strolling through this part of town. For nothing better afternoon break to beat the heat than going to the Ahoy! Chocolate and Lemonade where they make some excellent milkshakes, lemonades, smothies ...
Before dinner time treat yourself at a concert in St. Stephen's Basilica at around 20h, it worths the environment and the quality of the interpretation. For more information see the website of the basilic (http://www.bazilika.biz/). As a rule you can buy tickets at the door, but it's always preferable to buy in advance or in the Website before traveling or directly at your hotel.
For dinner this day we suggest the Strudel Haus near the Basilica, which in addition to the wide variety of strudels, can still count on Hungarian dishes of very good quality.
Day 3:
To this day our team (assuming your flight is in the afternoon) suggests you two optional programs. The first program we suggest is the visit to the parliament, which must be booked online at the parliament Website (http://www.jegymester.hu/eng/Index) otherwise it can be full.
The second program is to go visit the baths. The baths or thermal baths in Hungary are an institution, visited by tourists but above all heavily used by local people, so it is an opportunity to experience the city in a different way. Our team suggests you two: The Gellért and Széchenyi. The Gellért are in the Buda side, while the Széchenyi are in Pest, at the end of beautiful, long Andrássy Avenue. If you have not brought a bathing suit and a towel there is no harm because you can buy or rent it on the day. For lunch and if you chose the Széchenyi baths, we recommend one of several restaurants in Andrássy Utca, and after in that same avenue you may visit the Budapest Opera House.
If your flight is in the evening we suggest you spent a little walk and have a tea time at the New York Café, a coffee rival institution of the Café Central in Vienna.
Have a nice travel and we hope you enjoy Budapest!
